Things Required

Before starting the cleaning, ensure that you have the necessary equipment to clean your car. Mostly, these cleaning equipment are present in every home. But you will need to buy a few detergents and cleaning materials for deep cleaning.

Also, if you don’t want to apply a chemical detergent on your car seats and other parts, you can make your home detergent—mix ½ portion of the dishwasher with 3/2 amount of white vinegar. Also, add 2 cups of water to make a dilute solution.

It is a very good stink removing detergent that will not harm the material of your car. Below, we have given a list of what you will require during the cleaning process.

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Steam cleaner
  • Disinfectant
  • Air freshener
  • Spray bottle
  • Vinegar
  • Dish soap
  • Water
  • Bucket
  • Brush
  • Trash bin
  • Gloves
  • Mask
  • A piece of cloth

Once you have collected all the needed things for removing the smoke smell, it’s time to start the job. Below we will discuss some steps that will be very helpful to remove the smoke smell from the car altogether.

1. Remove any garbage

First, wear gloves for cleaning the inside of the car. Now remove any garbage from all parts of the vehicle. Look deeply under the seats, in the cabins, and at the sides. Remove the trash properly from your hands into a trash bin.

Removing garage packets will reduce your work, and you will have a clear view of the inside. Also, these garbage packets will be challenging to remove from a vacuum; that’s why it is better to remove them before vacuum.

2. Remove Ashes

Once you finish throwing the garbage, a bit difficult task starts. First, remove the ashes of the cigarette from the ashtray. Then, use a flashlight to search for small pieces of ashes spread in your car. These ashes are a significant source of spreading smoke smell.

You can also use a vacuum cleaner to deeply remove the ashes and other dirt. Apply the small mouth of the vacuum to clean the dirt from little sections easily. Make sure that you vacuum all car parts, from cabins to under the seat.

It will help make your car 60% free from the smoke smell. If you find a vacuum cleaner challenging to use, you can use a brush to clean the different sections of the car. It will do the same job, but it will be tough to brush the whole vehicle.

3. Remove Rugs

After removing the ashes from different parts of the car, you will notice that the smoke smell is still present. It is because of their always some dirt or ashes under the car rugs. Remove all the car rugs and then thoroughly clean the car with a vacuum or brush.

Also, before putting the rugs back, it is better to clean them or wash them with a detergent or a mixture of vinegar and dish soap. It will make the rugs new, and if there is any dirt in the mats, it will get removed.

4. Clean the Seats

Cleaning the car’s seats is essential for removing the smoke smell. Smoke smell can get into everything, and if you don’t clean the car seats correctly, it will remain the same. So, for cleaning car seats, use a wet piece of cloth.

However, you can use a detergent mixed in water or the vinegar solution you made previously for deep cleaning. It is better to make the solution in bulk quantity in a bucket so that you don’t have to remake it continuously.

Dip the piece of cloth and gently rub it on the seats. Please don’t go too hard on the seats as it can damage its material. Also, clean the bottom area of the seats correctly. Then use a wet cloth or some water to remove the residues of detergent. Now, your car seats are clean and free from smoke smell.

5. Use A Steam Cleaner

You can also use a steam cleaner to eliminate dirt from your car. A steam cleaner is a piece of suitable equipment for removing smells and unwanted dirt. Steam cleaner is way easier to use than a vacuum.

But, steam cleaning is a time-consuming method, and you have to make sure that the steam stays in the car for at least 1 or 2 days.

6. Clean Windows and Doors

Make sure that you also clean the doors and windows of the car. As we have said before, the smoke smell is the worst smell that can easily stay in everything for months. That’s why cleaning each part of the car to remove this smell is very important.

Again, to clean the doors and windows, you have to use a piece of cloth and dip it in a detergent solution. Then, use a newspaper to clean the windows correctly. Make sure that the doors must be cleaned from the outside and inside of the car.

7. Use A Disinfectant

Once you have finished the process of cleaning, now it’s time to disinfect the car. Due to dirt and cigarette ashes, your vehicle may have different germs and bacteria living in it. Use a disinfectant spray in the car and leave the vehicle closed for 2 hours.

However, while spraying in the car, make sure that you have wear gloves and a mask because the disinfectant spray can be dangerous for your health. After 2 hours, open the windows and doors of the hour and then leave for 2 hours so that the spray smell can go away.

8. Spray An Air Freshener

Last but the most crucial point is using an air freshener in your car for a good and pleasant smell. You can also put a small air freshener in your car and spray it whenever you sit in the car. It will make a fresh and pleasant environment for your passengers.

Conclusion

Any unpleasant odor can be disturbing for anyone. Especially if your car smells bad, it can make your traveling experience unpleasant. Cigarette or cigar smells are considered the worst smells and can last for months in a car.

It is imperative to clean the whole car to eliminate this smell. You can use different methods and tricks to remove this smell. First, thoroughly clean the vehicle with the help of a brush or vacuum cleaner. Also, use an air freshener for a fresh scent in your car.
