2018 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-class Coupe and Cabriolet have finally been revealed ahead of the Frankfurt motor show.
The S-Class is the flagship model of Mercedes Benz. It consists of the most expensive models. The S-Class is positioned above the E-class and CLS-Class four door model. This model of Mercedes Benz consists of the traditional S-Class models, the high-performance AMG models and the Mercedes-Maybach model.
The new S-class coupe gets an updated engine, new semi-autonomous driver assistance system and revised interior and exterior.
Exterior of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-class:
The New Mercedes-Benz S-class has gone through quite a number of changes from the outside. For starters, the front and rear bumpers have been revised, there is more chrome on the headlights and OLED tail lights have been added as standard. New side skirts and chrome tailpipe trims have been added, to give it a more V12 model look.
The new tail lights come with 66 Ultra-flat OLEDs that act like floating elements inside the tail-light housing. This gives the car an amazing look especially when you lock and unlock the car.
The car comes with two optional allow wheel choices. The S-class comes with AMG line allow rims that are 20 inch 10-spoke design that can be had in either high-sheen titanium grey or high-gloss black.
Interior Of the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S-class:
The first thing that catches the eye when you enter the New S-class is the steering wheel. The steering wheel design is similar to the 2018 S-class limousine range. There are 3 new trims available as well, high-glass brown burr walnut wood, satin grey ash wood and design magnolia wood, along with three new Nappa leather upholstery.
The dual-screen setup has also been updated. The car comes with two new 12.3 inch screens featuring updated graphics. The new touch-sensitive controls on the steering helps drivers easily access various menus and information. The screen also has gesture control for easier operation.
Other cool features include, the latest COMAND Online infotainment system, 3D navigation and topographical map displays, photo-realistic 3D buildings and map rotations.
The updated infotainment system allows you to play Apple and Android smartphone technologies. The car comes with wireless charging for compatible devices and it is a standard option.
Also, the updated driver assistance function has helped improve the autonomous driving capabilities of the car. Active Distance Control (adaptive cruise) and active steering assist are more comfortable. The Active Distance Control system uses the map and navigation system to make speed adjustments automatically ahead of bends.
Comfort is always paramount when it comes to an S-class and in the case of the 2018 S-class, Mercedes-Benz didn’t leave any stone unturned. The car comes with a new Energizing Comfort Control modes. These six comfort modes are accessible through the Comand infotainment system. The presets are designed around mood enhancing settings.
Each mode activates a different ambient lighting color scheme, climate control and fragrance setting. The six presets are Freshness, Warmth, Vitality, Joy, Comfort and Training.
The Engine of the New Mercedes-Benz S Class:
The engine of the new Mercedes-Benz S class has been revised. The S450 (Coupe) comes with a 3.0 Liter turbo V6 engine. This engine produces 270kW/500Nm of torque. The new nine-speed automatic transmission and new gliding function have increased fuel economy. The Car does 8.9L/100Km. This base model (S450) does 0-100km/h in 5.5 seconds.
The S560 just like the limousine features a 4.0 liter bi-turbo V8 engine. The car is said to go from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds. The new cylinder deactivation system can shut off 4 cylinders to reduce fuel consumption. According to Mercedes-Benz, the car can do 8.0L/100km for the rear wheel coupe and 8.7L/100km for the all-wheel drive 4 Matic coupe.
Lastly, the S65 comes with a powerful 6.0 liter bi-turbo V12. It produces 463kw of power and 1000Nm of torque. It can go from 0-100km/h in just 4.1 seconds.
Safety of the New Mercedes-Benz S Class:
The new Mercedes-Benz S-Class is equipped with the latest safety technology. The car has features like adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, active lane change assist, active emergency stop assist, active speed limit assist and a route-based speed adaptation system. The speed adaptive system works with the map data to analyze if a curve is coming up ahead to reduce speed. Other features include Evasive steering assist, active blind spot assist, active brake assist with cross-traffic function, Active lane keeping assist, pre-safer plus and car-to-X communication. The new pre-safer Side inflates the side of the seat bolster upon impact. This moves the passenger up to 2.75 inches away from the crash zone and pre-safe sound will omit an interference signal to prevent hearing loss.

Availability:
The 2018 Mercedes-Benz S class will arrive in the US by the end of the year. The models in available in the US at first will most likely be the S560 with rear-drive and 4 Matic all-wheel drive configurations. The lower priced and less powerful S450 will also be made available. The S450 will be made available in 3.0 liter V6 engines.
The new S-class is more elegant, powerful and stunning than before.
